In the heart of a bustling Times Square kitchen, dreams and despair collide as employees each chase the elusive American dream. The film directed by Alonso Ruizpalasios “La Cocina” impresses with its complex staging, but this does not compensate for the weaknesses of the narrative.

Unfortunately, the film fails to create an emotional connection with the main character

Interesting cinematography with blurry images at the beginning of the film gives the work a dynamic start, which then gives relief when the visual blur dissipates again. Rooney Mara and Raul Briones Carmona are convincing in their roles, but even their impressive performance cannot alleviate the problems that the main character demands from the viewer.

The biggest weakness of La Cocina is the lack of constructive solutions

The main character seems overexcited, and his uncontrollable rage and the resulting violence towards others are not only disturbing, but increasingly annoying. He symbolizes a generation of young, disoriented men who find it difficult to find their way and build stable relationships.

This leaves the viewer feeling unsatisfied and ultimately makes the film unsatisfactory
